For Authors

The Journal is accepting submissions for the 2016-17 year. Please follow the guidelines below for submitting articles, essays, book reviews, and any other scholarly legal work.

Regular Review

The Journal is published three times per year: winter and summer for print issues, and spring for our online climate change issue. All submitted manuscripts must be unpublished and sent electronically. To submit a manuscript directly to the Journal for consideration, please send the following:

A cover letter or email briefly describing the article, along with the author’s background and contact information.
A resume including a list of prior published works.
A file containing a double-spaced copy of the manuscript. The file must be in Microsoft Word .doc format. Citations must conform to The Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation (20th ed.) and should be contained in footnotes rather than endnotes.

Expedited Review

If you have received an offer of publication from another journal and would like to request an expedited review, please contact the Submissions Editor at jrnenv@law.columbia.edu. When requesting expedited review, please provide (1) the title of your article, (2) the journal from which you have an offer of publication, and (3) the date by which you must receive a decision from the Journal.

Field Reports

The Journal also accepts shorter, timely pieces for publication as Field Reports on our website. The same procedures and guidelines apply.
